About Us Charles County Literacy

Volunteer Workshops

By becoming a literacy tutor, you will learn of the positive impact you will have in someone’s life — not to mention truly understanding what it means for those who cannot read or “can” read but simply don’t understand what they are reading. When someone says to you, “Can you read this to me, I forgot my glasses?” there is the possibility that it means: “Can you read this to me because I can’t read it?”

All tutors must be trained and attend a workshop beforehand.

Generally, tutor training workshops are held three to four times a year.

Workshops are held in two sessions: one virtual from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on a Thursday; second in person on following Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The next tutor training workshop will be held on Thursday, January 9 and Saturday, January 11, 2025.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided. There is mandatory ‘homework’ to be done beforehand. Pre-registration is required. There is a $30 workshop fee that helps defray the cost of all training materials (we can offer a ‘workshop scholarship’ if needed).
